My trip to and about Vegas

Las Vegas is located in Nevada, USA. It is a desert, and has become this place of amusement for adults. The entertainment for adults includes casinos, alcohol, and one-of-a-kind-souvenirs, like slot pens, or cups that say weird stuff. With so much to see and do, it has become clear why it became one of the most popular cities in the US. And with so much alcohol, you know what/on the bed, and gambling, it also became, “Sin City”

One year during spring break, my family and I went to the US for a vacation in Las Vegas. We started our journey by driving across the US border, and filling up our bellies at the wonderful buffet. We later went to the Bellingham airport to catch our flight to Vegas.

Las Vegas is made up of many hotels and other attractions, but what I liked the most were the buffets. On the first day in Las Vegas we ate at a buffet. The dining in Las Vegas was simply divine because of the taste. There were two buffets that we dined at (not including The Wonderful Buffet). One was at the lovely Paris Hotel. There the décor was so finely made that it seemed like we were dining in Paris. There was delicious gravy with pork, chicken and any meat you could think of! The next day we went to the Bellagio Hotel and ate at the breakfast buffet. There was a vast Variety of cooked meat and delicious scrambled eggs. This décor made the diners feel rich, and hungrier, especially in the morning because that is when people are most hungry. I know this because I’m always like that. The juice at this buffet is freshly squeezed and the desserts are always really creamy.

After meals, there`s nothing better than to go to a show to satisfy the needs of excitement. The shows in Las Vegas were inspiring to most people, and impressive at the very least.  One of the shows we went to was at The Mirage Hotel and the trip there was tiring, because it was really far away from the hotel we stayed at, but totally worth it. Fire was spewing out of little machines completely in sync. The fire was moving to the same beat of the drums that were being beat. The other show was at Bellagio. Instead of having fire and drums come out, it had water and music playing perfectly in sync. There was not a lot of other entertainment for us kids in Las Vegas, so I went on Facebook for a little bit in our vacation. The last bit of entertainment source is the marvellous pool at our hotel, Monte Carle. There was a figure 8 current pool and a wave pool. This place even had a beach! The beach was artificial of course. The current pool had inner tubes you could ride on or sit on. I invented the triple tube by stacking three on top of one another. It was amazing.

We visited many hotels when we were at Las Vegas, and one of those boring time wasting hotels was the Treasure Island Hotel. We could not find shops so we left right away (lol). There was also a very medieval hotel Called Excalibur.  It was built like a castle, and a very fun arcade was underneath it. This hotel I personally like. I like Egyptians, so we visited a hotel shaped like a pyramid with a sphinx in the front.  The room were going up the pyramid shaped hotel. So the higher the floor the rooms were, the lesser rooms there were for guests to stay in. However, the hotel was pretty big. The name for this fabulous hotel is Luxor. New York New York (aka... NYNY) is right beside these hotels and there were was so many casinos in it and it’s not that tall, so I don’t even know if it’s a hotel or not. However, this hotel has an amazing feature. NYNY is made up of famous buildings that only exist in New York, and a roller coaster that connects the all of them.  The most memorable hotel is Vanisha. It was an Italian kind of hotel. There were gondola rides with a rower singing an Italian song. The trips took the guests around the hotel in style. In the town/hotel square, Italian opera singers would put on a show every hour of the day.

Finally it was time to go home. The flight home was just as good as the trip to Las Vegas . In the sky, Las Vegas seemed like squares of light, and we could see no darkness in the distance. Even up in the air, Vegas seemed so bright that I now call Las Vegas “The City of Light”. All the buildings looked as big as building blocks, and cars like ants. It was the sights only giants could see. I had a lot of fun here I hope we can go to Vegas again next spring break.
Guys give me a rating to between 1-5 stars and critique if you spot any mistakes! thanks!

30 day challenge

For my 30 day challenge I had wanted to eat breakfast everyday. Eating breakfast was the one thing I wasn't doing. I was able to achieve my goal by setting my alarm 30 minutes earlier so I had enough time to wake up earlier. Also my parents would call me at 7:30 so if I had not waken up by then, the ringing of the phone would wake me. Also I would use not one, but multiple alarms. To track my time I would use an old calender and I would I did it I would put a turkey leg and every time I did not I would put a X. The punishment for not eating breakfast would be I would starve until lunch. I would only lose my goal if I go to sleep late. Mainly if I go to sleep at 10 and wake up at 7 I can always eat breakfast.

Result in 30 day challenge

So far, i have gotten a lot faster, but i have not done a 400IM yet.  i have improved in my 200IM by a whopping 12 seconds! if i was doing a 400, then i might've improved by almost 20 seconds. i felt really happy when i got my time for the 200IM, because i know that i'll improve on the 400 even more! i think i have reached my goal.and maybe even exceeded it. have any of you completed your goals?

Humanities 8 29/02/12

What We Did
Today we started to prepare our portfolios for semester 2! The first time I worked with portfolios it was quite challenging for me because I was really disorganized. This time I am prepared to take on the mighty portfolio and come out victorious!

Learning Intentions
Adding our work to our portfolios allows us to keep track on how we are improving with our work. This is very important because it will tell us what we need to work on more. It is also a great way to provide proof of your achievements.

Connections Beyond Humanities
Portfolios are used in many job cases, and for the same purpose. To keep track of your work and to provide proof of your work. Portfolios are very important as you can see.

Homework
Our homework for Friday is to finish the work review sheets we received. Other than that we are free!

Feb 20th

Okay, so today in Humanities class we were mainly assigned rolls for our new research project that we started today. What we will be doing is using our roll to find new information on the medieval times. We research to discover what the person of our roll (mine is a merchants son) would do in a regular day of life back in that time.

We are doing this project because it will be fun to learn all of the stuff on this person because first of all we get to act and pretend to be a person in the middle ages but we also get to use the computers and the library for research which I weirdly find to be fun.

I have honestly never done anything very alike this, i have researched about people in older times and I have also acted. Those can both be two fun things to do but they can also be VERY difficult.

Some tips that I may give you are to not stay on website or book for too long because first you can waste lots of time searching that one thing and also if you dont find anything by skimming there may not be anything that is very usefull. You should just skim through it the first time and if you see anything usefull go back and read it again. And if you dont find anythig by skimming you can just go check a new website or book/encyclopedia that may be a lot better.

Hum 8 Homework

Sorry this learning blog was so late! I was swimming & doing some other homework from school.
What We Did

Today, our class broke out our uncommenly used, but amazing "Pathways" textbook and took turns reading some paragraphs. Fredrick & I decided it with rock-paper-scissors and i won so he had to read. we also made some awesome graphs about nobles, Kings, serfs, and all that stuff. while making the last graph, Ms. Lees thought that we were being too slow, so she gave us her thoughts about it and we zoomed past it. Awesome!

Learning Intention

Our learning intention was to learn about how the classes of the middle ages worked and what were the duties  of each person who lived there.

Connections Beyond Humanities

The connections for knowing this in Humanities and something that is not, is when you're a tour guide for a museum. when tou're telling people stuff about the middle ages, you have to tell them something that they don't know, not like "The middle ages is a time period that existed a long time ago", or knights fought with swords.

Homework

Our homework is to do a little venn diagram about tha oath of canadian citizenship, and one from the middle ages ( i hope that's right).

Tips for in class

NEVER... EVER work slow, because Ms. Lees will get very upset with you!!!!
