My trip to and about Vegas

Las Vegas is located in Nevada, USA. It is a desert, and has become this place of amusement for adults. The entertainment for adults includes casinos, alcohol, and one-of-a-kind-souvenirs, like slot pens, or cups that say weird stuff. With so much to see and do, it has become clear why it became one of the most popular cities in the US. And with so much alcohol, you know what/on the bed, and gambling, it also became, “Sin City”

One year during spring break, my family and I went to the US for a vacation in Las Vegas. We started our journey by driving across the US border, and filling up our bellies at the wonderful buffet. We later went to the Bellingham airport to catch our flight to Vegas.

Las Vegas is made up of many hotels and other attractions, but what I liked the most were the buffets. On the first day in Las Vegas we ate at a buffet. The dining in Las Vegas was simply divine because of the taste. There were two buffets that we dined at (not including The Wonderful Buffet). One was at the lovely Paris Hotel. There the décor was so finely made that it seemed like we were dining in Paris. There was delicious gravy with pork, chicken and any meat you could think of! The next day we went to the Bellagio Hotel and ate at the breakfast buffet. There was a vast Variety of cooked meat and delicious scrambled eggs. This décor made the diners feel rich, and hungrier, especially in the morning because that is when people are most hungry. I know this because I’m always like that. The juice at this buffet is freshly squeezed and the desserts are always really creamy.

After meals, there`s nothing better than to go to a show to satisfy the needs of excitement. The shows in Las Vegas were inspiring to most people, and impressive at the very least.  One of the shows we went to was at The Mirage Hotel and the trip there was tiring, because it was really far away from the hotel we stayed at, but totally worth it. Fire was spewing out of little machines completely in sync. The fire was moving to the same beat of the drums that were being beat. The other show was at Bellagio. Instead of having fire and drums come out, it had water and music playing perfectly in sync. There was not a lot of other entertainment for us kids in Las Vegas, so I went on Facebook for a little bit in our vacation. The last bit of entertainment source is the marvellous pool at our hotel, Monte Carle. There was a figure 8 current pool and a wave pool. This place even had a beach! The beach was artificial of course. The current pool had inner tubes you could ride on or sit on. I invented the triple tube by stacking three on top of one another. It was amazing.

We visited many hotels when we were at Las Vegas, and one of those boring time wasting hotels was the Treasure Island Hotel. We could not find shops so we left right away (lol). There was also a very medieval hotel Called Excalibur.  It was built like a castle, and a very fun arcade was underneath it. This hotel I personally like. I like Egyptians, so we visited a hotel shaped like a pyramid with a sphinx in the front.  The room were going up the pyramid shaped hotel. So the higher the floor the rooms were, the lesser rooms there were for guests to stay in. However, the hotel was pretty big. The name for this fabulous hotel is Luxor. New York New York (aka... NYNY) is right beside these hotels and there were was so many casinos in it and it’s not that tall, so I don’t even know if it’s a hotel or not. However, this hotel has an amazing feature. NYNY is made up of famous buildings that only exist in New York, and a roller coaster that connects the all of them.  The most memorable hotel is Vanisha. It was an Italian kind of hotel. There were gondola rides with a rower singing an Italian song. The trips took the guests around the hotel in style. In the town/hotel square, Italian opera singers would put on a show every hour of the day.

Finally it was time to go home. The flight home was just as good as the trip to Las Vegas . In the sky, Las Vegas seemed like squares of light, and we could see no darkness in the distance. Even up in the air, Vegas seemed so bright that I now call Las Vegas “The City of Light”. All the buildings looked as big as building blocks, and cars like ants. It was the sights only giants could see. I had a lot of fun here I hope we can go to Vegas again next spring break.
Guys give me a rating to between 1-5 stars and critique if you spot any mistakes! thanks!

30 day challenge

For my 30 day challenge I had wanted to eat breakfast everyday. Eating breakfast was the one thing I wasn't doing. I was able to achieve my goal by setting my alarm 30 minutes earlier so I had enough time to wake up earlier. Also my parents would call me at 7:30 so if I had not waken up by then, the ringing of the phone would wake me. Also I would use not one, but multiple alarms. To track my time I would use an old calender and I would I did it I would put a turkey leg and every time I did not I would put a X. The punishment for not eating breakfast would be I would starve until lunch. I would only lose my goal if I go to sleep late. Mainly if I go to sleep at 10 and wake up at 7 I can always eat breakfast.

Result in 30 day challenge

So far, i have gotten a lot faster, but i have not done a 400IM yet.  i have improved in my 200IM by a whopping 12 seconds! if i was doing a 400, then i might've improved by almost 20 seconds. i felt really happy when i got my time for the 200IM, because i know that i'll improve on the 400 even more! i think i have reached my goal.and maybe even exceeded it. have any of you completed your goals?

Humanities 8 29/02/12

What We Did
Today we started to prepare our portfolios for semester 2! The first time I worked with portfolios it was quite challenging for me because I was really disorganized. This time I am prepared to take on the mighty portfolio and come out victorious!

Learning Intentions
Adding our work to our portfolios allows us to keep track on how we are improving with our work. This is very important because it will tell us what we need to work on more. It is also a great way to provide proof of your achievements.

Connections Beyond Humanities
Portfolios are used in many job cases, and for the same purpose. To keep track of your work and to provide proof of your work. Portfolios are very important as you can see.

Homework
Our homework for Friday is to finish the work review sheets we received. Other than that we are free!

Feb 20th

Okay, so today in Humanities class we were mainly assigned rolls for our new research project that we started today. What we will be doing is using our roll to find new information on the medieval times. We research to discover what the person of our roll (mine is a merchants son) would do in a regular day of life back in that time.

We are doing this project because it will be fun to learn all of the stuff on this person because first of all we get to act and pretend to be a person in the middle ages but we also get to use the computers and the library for research which I weirdly find to be fun.

I have honestly never done anything very alike this, i have researched about people in older times and I have also acted. Those can both be two fun things to do but they can also be VERY difficult.

Some tips that I may give you are to not stay on website or book for too long because first you can waste lots of time searching that one thing and also if you dont find anything by skimming there may not be anything that is very usefull. You should just skim through it the first time and if you see anything usefull go back and read it again. And if you dont find anythig by skimming you can just go check a new website or book/encyclopedia that may be a lot better.

Hum 8 Homework

Sorry this learning blog was so late! I was swimming & doing some other homework from school.
What We Did

Today, our class broke out our uncommenly used, but amazing "Pathways" textbook and took turns reading some paragraphs. Fredrick & I decided it with rock-paper-scissors and i won so he had to read. we also made some awesome graphs about nobles, Kings, serfs, and all that stuff. while making the last graph, Ms. Lees thought that we were being too slow, so she gave us her thoughts about it and we zoomed past it. Awesome!

Learning Intention

Our learning intention was to learn about how the classes of the middle ages worked and what were the duties  of each person who lived there.

Connections Beyond Humanities

The connections for knowing this in Humanities and something that is not, is when you're a tour guide for a museum. when tou're telling people stuff about the middle ages, you have to tell them something that they don't know, not like "The middle ages is a time period that existed a long time ago", or knights fought with swords.

Homework

Our homework is to do a little venn diagram about tha oath of canadian citizenship, and one from the middle ages ( i hope that's right).

Tips for in class

NEVER... EVER work slow, because Ms. Lees will get very upset with you!!!!

30 Day Challenge Update Week 1

The first week of my vegetable challenge went very well! It was quite easy to eat vegetables every day. It really helps if you buy a pre-made vegetable platter from the grocery store. That way you get variety and some good dipping sauce! Let's see how well I will do next week...

30 day challenge

My 30 day challenge will be to eat breakfast every day

My goal for the next month

My 30 day goal.
For the next 30 days I will try to eat at least a serving of fruits or vegetables twice a day. I think that I can acheive this goal because some fruits and vegetables taste very good. I want to acheive this goal so that I will be more healthy and I will live a better life.

Goals for 30 Days

Goals For 30 Days

My goal that i plan to achieve in 30 days is to get a time that's at least 10 seconds faster than my old time in a 400 IM. My plan to achieve this goal is to try to improve by 2 seconds each week. if i do that, i'll be sure to move up to the next level before i know it! i might even get my A or AA time!
What We Did:
Today in class we reviewed blogs and blog post and Ms Lees showed us how to critique and what a good post. She also showed us how to rate it for example if they didn't have enough information it could be a 5 or a 4. She explained that a post that is a 5 does not have to be perfect. After she showed us how to critique posts we watched a video with a guy talking about goals he set for 30 days and accomplished and sometimes still does because its fun.

Connections Beyond English:
I think the critique helped us in class because some of us were unclear and not sure what to do and Ms Lees cleared that up. The critique could help us in the future or out of humanities class because we will learn how to give feedback without making someone upset. For the video we could learn to try something new.

Homework and Homework Tips

For homework all we had to do is post on the blog a paragraph about something we are going to do for 30 days.

Tips:
Look on Ms Lees blog if you are unsure what to do for your 30 day goal

30 Day Challenge

My goal for 30 days is to eat breakfast every morning. I can keep doing this goal by not eating before bed the night before. The other thing is to wake up earlier so I can get hungry by that I mean that i am never hungry right when I wake up.

30 Day Challenge!

Today we were watching a video in class. It was about a guy that tried changing something about his life style for 30 days. This could mean getting more exercise, eating healthier, doing homework every night, etc... The challenge could be anything that could better you as a person. He was talking on stage and trying to convince all his viewers that it isn't that hard to change your life style as long as you keep a habit going. I decided to accept this challenge and eat healthier. Don't get me wrong I am not going to stop drinking soda and stop eating sweet food. I am going to eat some vegetables every day (something very rare for me to do). I will also be doing a weekly report on how the challenge has been going. Let's hope I don't abandon it!

Homehork for Friday

What We Did

Today our class finished up presenting our novel posters and had a few single person presentations. Our teacher Ms.Lees instructed us to listen very carefully to other group's presentations because we were not allowed to copy any part of anyone elses presentations. I think it was quite smart. every group's speeches were amazing, especially ours. Coltin felt a little bit left out during the speech, but we'll make it up to him... someday. After we were finished with the posters, Ms. Lees Showed us a video we never saw before involving shopping carts, teamwork, great leadership, and fantastic ideas.

Learning Intentions

The reason why we had to listen so carefully was to not repete what anyone else said. We lost track of what had already been said, but luckily, we made it through, or that Ms. Lees forgot everything as well. The reason why we watched the mysterious video was to learn leadership skills, by listening to the group members comments, ideas, or any other mumbo jumbo. the clip was pretty enjoyable though.

Connections Beyond Hum.

Listening to other people's opinions or ideas will be a very good skill to use when in court. By court i mean a trial for a bad guy, with lawyers, Judges, and jurys. If the suspect is ignored, then he'll be toast. might as jump off a bridge. Being a good leader or having really good leadership skills will help when leading a protest or when working on a project in school. Both of these activities need leaders, of the protest or project will fail. Leadership is important in many things, but i can't list them all.

Homework

thank god that we didn't get any homework over the weekend. I would like to thank the Class, Ms. Lees, and mostly, the Class for this homework free weekend. i enjoyed it a lot!

What we did:
Hello, Today in class we went to the library. In the library we got into our blog groups and went back and looked at our goals for January. After we searched through all of our goals we wrote if we completed them or didn't and if we didn't we wrote why. Also we gave a number out of 5 on someone in your groups blog. For example me and Jaden P were partners so we looked at our blog post's for january and gave a mark out of 5 (5 being the best 1 as the worst)

Homework:
Today we all we had to do is finish up marking our group goal sheet and put a number out of 5 on our partners blog post in January and say why we gave it that.

Connections Beyond english:
This is a good goal in life because you learn how to give constructive criticism without anyone getting offended and to be able to follow goals you set.

Thank you everyone for your time. BYE!!

Lees Humanities Wednesday Jan,26,2011.

Today in Humanities class we got together with our blog groups. We are going to present our posters soon. When we got together we were deciding on who would say what. Some groups were fighting over topics they would present, for example: I was fighting with someone in my group over presenting the weapons from our story. I decided to present food instead. When I present my poster tpic I will talk about rice and how it was considered cheap food for the poor people. I think I am nearly ready to present. Presenting topics to groups of people is a good life skill. It will be very useful for jobs when we are adults, especially with big companies. Today was definitely a productful day in class.

Hum 8 Homework

Today, Ms. Lees instructed the class to get in our novel groups and finish our posters. Most groups were finished most of it, but some groups were far behind, so they had to come during flex. We also filled out a self assesment for how much we worked on and what were they. At the end of class, Ms. Lees told us to think of how to present the poster, so we all decided to present on the parts we worked on. our group might have exagerated some of the things that we self-evaluated on.

The learning intention was to be true on what you did and judging how other people worked. Working on the poster tought us how to stay on task with people you might not be very familier with.

When class was over and we were beginning to pack up, Ms. Lees told us to do the Chapter one questions for "There Will Be Wolves".

Wednesday, 4 January 2012

Today in Humanities class we had a double block day and we had a lot of work to do. First off we had to do a geography challenge test which consisted of history, people, land and water masses. The reason we did this was so we could learn about geography knowledge that we would need in real life. Mostly you would need to know about languages religions you would defiantly need to know about continents and water and you should also know the history of the world. The reason we should know this is if you ever wanted a job or if you wanted to be a historian or someone who makes globes you would need to know this important information.

We also had to look back at the movie the first knight. We didn’t exactly watch the movie but we watched the first thirty minutes which had someone explain what had happened in the middle ages. There were three parts in the middle ages which were the early middle ages the high Middle Ages and the late middle ages. In the early middle ages there was someone called King Charles or Charlemagne. Charlemagne was very important not because he was king, but his acts as king what he did was he had made it so even if you are a very poor person you could still have food. He did this by having the people alive to make more crops which mean more food and more food means more people. He also had built roads all across Europe so that more people could get around. In the high middle ages there were the Crusades. The Crusades were mainly made up of villagers. The Crusades had wanted to travel to Jerusalem because they had wanted to steal the religion because they didn’t think the Jerusalem’s weren’t as religious. The reason why the villagers had willingly gone to war is because the leader had told them that if they had fought for Gods side they would go straight to heaven. Once they had arrived in Jerusalem they had found out that they were even more religious than them. They had also learned s lot of things while they were there. They learned roman numerals languages and much more. The late middle ages were probably the worst time in the middle ages. First of all there was terrible weather which meant fewer crops. Also in the early middle ages Charlemagne had made it so that there was way more people so in the late middle ages less food and more people meant more people would die. It was even worse because there was a disease called the Black Death which meant if you had it you would die in five days.

In second block we had gone to the library because we had to work on our blogs. All we had to do was find out who had been posting what we had to do and follow everyone blogs. The most important thing was critiquing each other’s posts. What we had to do was look at each other’s blogs and see what we did wrong.

hum 8 blog stuff

Okay so today, we started the day by talking about the warm and fuzzy drive. We are are supposed to bring in any not worn out jackets, blankets, pants, hoodies and other fuzzy and warm clothing. Mrs. Lees also told us that we do not have to have our books finished right away and we did not have to be finished reading them until this monday.
We talked about the warm and fuzzy drive because there are people on this planet who are not as fortunate as us and they need help finding comfortable clothes such as fuzzy clothers and warm nice jackets. We were given an extra week (6 days) to finish the books because some people in this class do not read as fast as others and they will need a bit more time to finish the books.
A connection in real life for a warm and fuzzy drive would be, there could be a little boy in the neiborhood whose parents cannot afford to buy him a warm jackets for when he goes out into the cold walking to school what it is snowy or very rainy out. A connection for real life in getting extra days to read a book could be that one boy could be slower at reading and everybody else was fast and the teacher didnt want to make to boy feel sad about reading slower so she gave everybody an extra week to finish the books.
Some homework tips for reading the book could be to go to sleep 30 minute to an hour early so you can read the book for a long time before you go to bed. You could also not watch TV and read a book instead. I did that with my book because it was a very interesting book about saladin attacking Jerusalem and there being a very big fight to take over Jerusalem.
